Team
Update 23/08/00:
Due to the financial strain of being held up in Houston at the beginning
of the expedition and the robbery
in Chiapas, Mexico two expedition members, Joanne Kemp and Mark
Felton have had to return to the UK. However Latin American Challenge
still continues as Michael Kemp and Amanda Phillips make their way
through South America. |
|
|
Michael Kemp
- Age 30. After gaining a BSc (Hons) from the University of Southampton, Michael has
spent the past three years working on a PhD in Computer Science. As well as working full time on his PhD Michael has been
constructing the Latin American Challenge Website and secured sponsorship from
Internet provider, Direct Connection. |
|
|
Amanda Phillips
- Age 23. Amanda graduated from the University of Southampton with a BA
(Hons) in English and French in 1998. She works for PR company
Hobsbawm Macaulay Communications. She is looking forward to putting her Spanish to good
use, which she has been studying in preparation for the expedition.
Amanda will be writing articles about the expedition |

|
Mark Felton
- Age 35. Mark has traveled with Joanne (below) throughout Europe in a VW Combi and has been on a round-the-world trip incorporating
Australasia, South East Asia and America. They have also back-packed in Central
America and are therefore both well accustomed to life on the road. However,
this is the first time they are embarking on a long-term trip in a Land Rover.
Mark has single handedly restored a mini, and as the most practically minded
member of the team, is officially the expedition mechanic. |
|
|
Joanne Kemp
- Age 28. Jo has traveled extensively with Mark (see above).
Jo will be leaving behind her job at the private London Bridge
Hospital, where she works in reservations. Never tiring of the travel bug, Jo
and Mark intend to make Africa and India their next destinations. |
