Campeche - Merida - Chichen Itza. Heart of the Maya World.
Cancun - Playa Del Carmen - Chetumal, Belize Border

Due to the financial strain of being held up in Houston at the beginning of the expedition and the robbery in Chiapas, Mexico two expedition members, Joanne Kemp and Mark Felton have had to return to the UK. However Latin American Challenge still continues as Michael Kemp and Amanda Phillips make their way through South America.

Cintalapa - This is where the robbery happened. Stopped in Tuxtla Gutierrez to get police report.

 

18 August 2000

Puerto Escondido to Oaxaca via Salina Cruz. Long mountain drives. Saw many accidents and shrines on the roadside.

Salina Cruz to Juchitan.

Camped amongst the coconut trees of Boca Beach, near Manzanillo and enjoyed the strong surf.

Playa Azul to Acapulco

Durango - Mazatlan. Experienced severe thunder and near lightning strikes on the road. Lorry infront blows tyre - very near miss. Drive from Durango to Mazatlan on the Pacific coast takes 9 hours through mountains. Got completely washed out in Mazatlan camp site.

Camped on the beach at San Blas in front of El Pescador restaurant owned by Trinny and Rafael.
