Border crossing from Guatemala to El Salvador. Straightforward.

Stayed in Antigua, a very relaxed and cosmopolitan town overlooked by a volcano.

Spent too much money at Chichicastenango market. Had fun bargaining.

Visited Lake Atitlan. Drove around entire lake! Beautiful place, unfortunately surrounded by cloud during most of our stay.

Drove to the tiny mountain village of Todos Santos, where all the men wear a fabulous traditional dress of red and white stripey trousers, brightly coloured woven shirt and hat. Experienced brake failure when driving down the steep mountain road!

On the way to Huehuetenango gave police truck a tow. Stayed with American missionaries Billy and Debbie. Visited a bible study class in a suburb of Huehue where the inquisitive children were fascinated by our "big noses". We got mobbed when we got the camera out.

Drove to mountain village of Nebaj. Cold, damp and not very interesting.

Returned to Coban from Laguna Lachua. We ran over a dog in a remote village and were threatened by a man with a gun. (see article).

Arrived at Laguan Lachua National Park with biologists Mads and Pablo. (see article).

In Coban we met American missionaries Mark and Pam Best who showed us around the local hospital where they deliver 20 babies a night. Also visited the small pocom-chi indian village of Guaxpac to deliver medical supplies to their recently constructed clinic.

Drove to Lanquin and visited the pools at Semuc Champey with fellow travellers German Martin and Israeli Galla. Camped overnight having made friends with the guards by offering biscuits.

Visited ruins of Tikal. Having obtained permission to drive to more remote ruins we were advised to turn back due to poor road conditions.
